Terms of service

Last updated: November 2, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and ziglyph LLC, a Massachusetts limited liability company ("ziglyph", "we", "us"). They cover the Mirivilo app for Mac, your Mirivilo subscriptions and the website mirivilo.com. You accept them when you tick the box at checkout, start a free trial or sign in to Mirivilo. Please read them: sections 12 to 14 limit what we're responsible for, and section 16 explains which law applies.

1. Buying through Link

Mirivilo is sold through Link, by Stripe. The seller and merchant of record for every order is Sold through Link, LLC ("Link"): it sells Mirivilo to you, takes your payment, handles sales tax, sends your receipts and handles payment and subscription support. Link's terms apply to your purchase, and Stripe and its affiliates process the payment. These terms apply to your use of Mirivilo. For help with Mirivilo itself, write to support [at] mirivilo.com.

2. The subscription and its price

A Mirivilo subscription is $10 a year for one iPhone or iPad, plus tax, and it's the only one we sell. It includes everything Mirivilo does. Your Macs are free, as many as you like: only iPhones and iPads need a subscription. Each subscription covers one iPhone or iPad (section 6), and each is bought on its own, in Mirivilo.

Prices are set in US dollars, plus any sales tax or other tax that applies; Link may show and charge the price in your currency, and its checkout shows the exact amount before you pay. If we change the price, we email you at least 7 and no more than 30 days before the new price first applies to you, with the new price, the date and how to cancel. If you don't want the new price, cancel before that date. If you're charged the new price and didn't want it, ask for a refund within 7 days (see our Refund Policy).

Where Mirivilo is sold. Mirivilo is sold only to buyers whose billing address is in a country or region listed at checkout. We list only places where Link handles sales tax for us, and the list can change. If a purchase comes through with a billing address anywhere else, we cancel it straight away and refund all of it.

3. Free trial

Each iPhone and iPad gets one free trial of 7 days. It starts the first time a Mac signed in to Mirivilo backs up or restores that device. No card or other payment method is needed, and nothing is charged. Nothing renews either: when the trial ends, Mirivilo asks you to subscribe for that device, and if you don't, its backups stop (section 8).

The trial belongs to the device, not to an email address. We recognise a device by a one-way code made from its hardware identifiers (see our Privacy Policy), so signing in with another email address doesn't start a new trial for it, and a second-hand iPhone or iPad that has had its trial doesn't get another. A new iPhone or iPad gets its own trial, which also covers setting it up from another device's backup. Subscribing for a device ends its free trial, and a device that a paid subscription has covered doesn't get a free trial afterwards, even if that subscription is refunded or ends.

4. Renewal and cancellation

Each subscription renews automatically every year on its own date, and Link charges your payment method its price, plus any tax, until you cancel it or turn off its renewal.

Cancel online any time:

Cancelling stops all future charges for the subscriptions you cancel straight away. To stop one device's subscription from renewing, use Turn Off Renewal… for that device in Mirivilo (Settings › Subscription), or write to support [at] mirivilo.com. Each subscription keeps working until the end of the year you've paid for. Removing a device from Mirivilo doesn't cancel its subscription or turn off its renewal (section 6).

Reminders: we email you 35 days and 7 days before each renewal, with the date, the amount and how to cancel. Link also emails you before each yearly renewal. For refunds, see our Refund Policy: within 7 days of any payment, no questions asked; for a new subscription, once per iPhone or iPad.

5. Your email address

You sign in to Mirivilo on each Mac with your email address and a one-time code. Your subscriptions belong to the email address you subscribed with: only that address can pay, cancel or ask for a refund, and our emails about charges go only there. Keep access to that email address secure, because anyone who can read its email can sign in as you. Don't let other people sign in with your email address. You may sign in your own children's Macs yourself. You must be an adult (18, or the age of majority where you live) to subscribe.

6. Your devices

Each subscription covers one iPhone or iPad. You buy it with Subscribe… for that iPhone or iPad in Mirivilo, using the email address that Mac is signed in with, and it's that device's from the moment you pay. It stays with that device for as long as the subscription lasts: it can't be moved, swapped or replaced, and a new device needs its own subscription. A device that stops using Mirivilo, or that you remove from Mirivilo, keeps its subscription, and the subscription renews as usual until you cancel it or turn off its renewal (section 4). If two subscriptions are ever paid for the same device, we cancel the extra one and refund all of it without your asking. Subscriptions can't be given, shared, sold or transferred to anyone else. If you sell or give away an iPhone or iPad, its subscription stays with that device until it ends, and it keeps renewing on your payment method until you cancel it or turn off its renewal; the new owner can't manage it. Turn off its renewal first if you don't want to keep paying.

7. Using Mirivilo

Mirivilo is licensed, not sold. We give you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Mirivilo on Macs you own or control, with the iPhones and iPads that have a subscription or are in their free trial: your own devices and devices you look after (such as your children's or your business's). Reading and exporting your backups, and installing updates, need no subscription (section 8). We and our licensors keep all other rights in Mirivilo. You may not:

Open source. Mirivilo includes open-source components with their own licenses, listed under Help › Open Source. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licenses. In particular, you may change or replace the LGPL libraries and the separate open-source programs inside Mirivilo for your own use, re-sign your copy so macOS will open it, and reverse engineer Mirivilo as far as needed to debug those changes. A changed copy still needs a subscription for the features that need one, exactly like an unchanged copy, and we don't provide support for changed copies.

8. When a subscription ends

When an iPhone's or iPad's free trial or subscription ends, or this Mac is signed out, Mirivilo stops backing up that device that day, including automatic backups. Restoring a backup to a device, or reinstalling iOS on a device stuck in Recovery Mode, needs an active subscription or free trial for that device. Reading what's in your backups and exporting it keep working, free, for good: your backups are standard Apple backups and stay on your Mac. If a payment fails, Mirivilo keeps working for 3 more days while Link tries again. Mirivilo checks your subscriptions online when it opens and once a day; offline, it keeps working for up to 30 days after it last checked, but not past the paid-until date it last confirmed. Updates install with or without a subscription.

9. Your data and your backups

Mirivilo keeps your backups, files and settings on your Mac. We don't receive them.

Some actions replace or delete data for good. A restore always uses the device's latest backup from before the restore starts; earlier backups can be read and exported, but not restored. Restoring everything replaces what's on the device with that backup. Restoring only some data puts back the parts you chose from that backup and keeps the rest as it was. "Erase first" erases the device before the restore. Reinstalling iOS or iPadOS on a device stuck in Recovery Mode erases it. Mirivilo asks you to confirm before a restore or a reinstall starts, and backs up the device first when it can, so that, until the device is next backed up, you can restore it to how it was. Mirivilo also deletes older backups for good, as described next.

Earlier days. Mirivilo keeps the last 30 days of backups of each device, one for each day (the last backup of that day), and after each backup it deletes the days older than that for good. It never deletes a device's latest backup, however old, and it keeps the backup it makes before a restore for at least 30 days. Earlier days, and that backup once a newer one exists, can be read and exported, but not restored. If your Mac runs low on space, it removes the oldest days first and tells you. On a drive that isn't formatted as APFS, it keeps only the latest backup.

Restores can fail. A restore or a reinstall can stop part-way, for example if the cable comes loose, the Wi-Fi drops, the Mac sleeps or Apple's servers refuse it. The device may then need to be restored again, or iOS reinstalled from Recovery Mode, which erases it.

Encrypted backups. If you encrypt a backup, nobody, including us, can open it without its password. Keep the password safe.

Your part. Before a restore, make sure you have a current copy of anything important, and check that you've chosen the right device, that its latest backup is the one you want, and the right way to restore. You're responsible for choosing what to restore, erase or reinstall. Mirivilo can't recover data that was deleted for good.

10. Changes to Mirivilo

While you have an active subscription, we provide the updates Mirivilo needs to keep working as described, including security fixes. We may change Mirivilo to fix problems, improve security, keep up with changes in macOS, iOS or the law, or improve it. Changes won't cost you extra. If a change makes Mirivilo clearly worse for you, or an update needs a newer macOS than yours, we tell you in advance and you can cancel within 30 days and get back the unused part of your payment. If we stop offering Mirivilo, we tell you at least 60 days ahead, or as soon as we reasonably can if the reason is outside our control (for example a change made by Apple or Stripe), and we refund the unused part of any subscription.

11. Apple

Mirivilo is made by ziglyph LLC. It isn't made, sponsored or endorsed by Apple Inc. Apple, Mac, iPhone, iPad, macOS and Finder are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries and regions.

Some features use services run by others, such as Apple's activation and software-update servers and ipsw.me. We don't control them, and they may change or stop. If that makes Mirivilo clearly worse for you, section 10 applies.

12. Our promise and its limits

Our promise. Mirivilo will work substantially as described in its manual. If it doesn't and we can't fix it within a reasonable time, you can cancel and get back what you paid for the period affected.

Apart from that promise, and as far as the law allows, Mirivilo is provided "as is" and "as available", and we disclaim all other warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise Mirivilo will be free of errors.

Your legal rights come first. Some laws don't allow these limits, for example Massachusetts law for consumers. Where that's so, they don't apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law says can't be limited.

13. Limit of liability

As far as the law allows, ziglyph's total liability to you for all claims about Mirivilo is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Mirivilo in the 12 months before the claim and US$50. We aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, or for lost data you could have avoided with your own backups. These limits don't apply to liability the law doesn't allow us to limit, such as for fraud, for harm we cause on purpose or through gross negligence, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for your rights as a consumer described in section 12.

These limits also protect ziglyph's owners (its members under Massachusetts law), managers, employees and contractors. ziglyph LLC alone is responsible to you for Mirivilo: you agree not to bring a claim about Mirivilo against any of them personally, except for their own fraud or intentional harm, or where the law doesn't allow this.

14. Your responsibility for misuse

If you use Mirivilo in breach of section 7 and someone makes a claim because of it against us, or against our owners, managers, employees or contractors, you'll cover the reasonable costs of that claim, as far as the law allows.

15. Ending this agreement

You can stop using Mirivilo and cancel any time. We may suspend or end a subscription for a serious breach of these terms, non-payment, fraud, abuse of free trials, selling, renting or sharing subscriptions, or a security risk. We tell you why unless the law or security prevents it. If we end a subscription for a reason that isn't your fault, we refund the unused part of it.

16. Law and disputes

Please contact us first: most problems are solved by email. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA. This doesn't take away any protection that the consumer laws of the place where you live give you and that can't be waived. Disputes go to the state or federal courts in Massachusetts, unless a law that can't be waived lets you bring a claim somewhere else.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect changes in Mirivilo, the law or our business. If a change matters to you, we email you and post it on mirivilo.com at least 30 days before it applies. If you don't agree, you can cancel before then and get back the unused part of your payment. Changes never apply to a payment you've already made.

18. Export and sanctions

You may not use, download or send Mirivilo in or to a country or region under a comprehensive US embargo (currently Cuba, Iran, North Korea and the Crimea, so-called Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic regions of Ukraine), to anyone on a US government restricted-party list, or where US export law forbids it. By using Mirivilo, you confirm that none of these applies to you.
